Fridays are the Best Days (But No Disrespect to the Other Days)

No disrespect to the other days of the week, and I honestly love every day of the week, but since it’s Friday, I’m going to say this is the Best Day.

Meredith O'Neill

The energy of Fridays is

  • like playful goats

  • like trying to fall asleep the night before your birthday

  • like Girl Scout cookies delivery day

  • like you have plans to see the new movie that’s getting all the BUZZ!

I love Friday energy.

Each day has its own vibe, and I won’t waste any time here bashing Sundays and Mondays because that’s just unfair; laundry, grocery shopping, and meal prepping have their rightful places in life. Most of the time, I feel like my ability to complete responsibilities is held together with the frailty of spiders’ webs. I’ve accepted that fact.

On Friday, all the things I put into motion on Mondays have finally manifested. The queries have received replies, the edits have been finalized, and the tallies have been marked. Friday feels like accomplishments, finish lines, and festivities.

I am feeling the Friday energy today because a special project that I’ve been developing is finalized. It’s my William Shakespeare Collaborative Poster and I am beyond excited.

Speaking of festivities, we celebrate a most special fella tomorrow on his 18th birthday. Sidebar, our son Nick is also a goat lover (story for a different time), and he happens to be one of the nicest people you will ever meet. He has a heart of gold, and his aura is so warm and welcoming, you just want to be the one who gets to sit next to him. We have the greatest laughs, the coolest inside jokes, and the best memories. It is such a gift to celebrate him. 18!

No disrespect to the other days; every day of the week has its place. I was thinking about Fridays on my commute this morning, and I realized that I view each week as a mountain to climb. On Sundays, I start at the bottom, and then I climb to the top by Saturday. That’s a rather uncool way of seeing it, don’t you agree?

I’m not going to look at weeks like that anymore. Every day can be as Friday as I can make it. Here’s how I plan to accomplish this shift in perception:

  • Don’t oversleep on the weekends. (Doing so makes me more tired and less energized.)

  • Eat at mealtimes on the weekends. (When I skip meals, I feel less energized and crabbier.)

  • Just get those stupid chores done already and quit fussing about them. Plan to do them at the least inconvenient times.

  • Get outside.

  • Commune with friends and loved ones.

  • Do some work that your Monday self will be proud of.

  • Take care of your business during the week. Put the balls in motion, send the emails, check the accounts, and be the #bossofyourownlife.

Of course, not every day can be fantastic. Good and bad are waves, floating in and out at varying intensities over which we have no control. I’m fine with accepting that universal truth.

This is probably not the inaugural blog post that I’d envisioned for Hello, Friday!, but alas. I was paralyzing myself with the expectation of perfection instead of just getting on and writing the darn thing already.

Signing off for now. Thanks for reading this very-less-than-perfect-but-perfectly-okay Happy, Friday! Blog Post #1.

XOXO,

Meredith
